Rosemary grew up in the hustle and bustle of N.Y.C., at an early age preferring her time spent on weekends and summers in the beauty of the seashore and countryside at the eastern tip of Long Island, N.Y. The contrast between big city living and a rural home one-hundred miles away was far more stark in the 1960's and 1970's than today with the sprawling suburbs now filling the distance. In her experience of that contrast, a deep sensibility of her surroundings developed. Although she gravitated toward the architectural stability of the buildings lining the avenues and streets of N.Y.C., she yearned for the panoramic vistas of the beaches and countryside, the soft feel of the sand and waves, the gentler sounds of the water and chirping birds.
A summer program in art and architecture in France influenced her desire to pursue the visual arts, and she obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Kenyon College in Ohio. Over the past two decades she has focused her work in oil and pastel painting while studying with three nationally known artists in Kansas where she currently resides.
Inspired by the beauty of her subject matter, ranging from seashore scenes of beaches and sunsets, boats and wildlife, to her interest in architectural structures, Rosemary is motivated to portray a serenity and majesty in her work.
